CMT Kicking Off CMA Week

Night 1 of CMA Music Festival will be accompanied by The Concert for Love & Acceptance — an annual CMT event. This event kicks off at 7 PM on Thursday, June 6th at Wildhorse Saloon. This CMT event was implemented to spread positivity and acceptance to LGBTQ people! This has been a pleasant addition to the CMA Fest week lineup for the past four years. Ty Herndon and CMT’s Cody Alan will be hosting the event. There will be performances by Lee Brice, Billy Gilman, Daughtry, Harper Grae, Chely Wright, and many others! This will be a night that any Nashvillian won’t want to miss!

In 2010, Chely Wright came out as a lesbian. Host Ty Herndon is ecstatic to have her on the scene considering she paved the way for many LGBTQ musicians – both in country music and in a multitude of other genres. “Without her pioneering courage, the path to being out and accepted would have been much longer and harder,” Herndon said. “All of us owe her a great deal of gratitude and admiration.”

GLAAD’s Chief Programs Officer Zeke Stokes elaborated that music has “the power to not only connect us but to change hearts and minds,” noting that LGBTQ people are front and center in the industry.

“It has been incredible to see country music continue to evolve as a space for inclusivity and acceptance for both artists and fans,” Stokes said. “The Concert for Love & Acceptance continues to promote this message. We look forward to welcoming another incredible lineup of artists this year who will join together in support of the LGBTQ community.”
